First Czech book in the history of the project

Eli Beneš is a Prague-based writer and music producer. For fourteen years, he hosted programmes on the Czech electronic music scene on Radio 1, composed music for Czech Television, and was involved in founding several independent music labels as well as the Prague Academy of Electronic Music.

He came to literature through music, radio, and culture. He studied English and American Studies and Czech Philology at the Faculty of Arts, Charles University, followed by Journalism and Media Studies at the Faculty of Social Sciences.

In 2023, he published his debut novel A Slight Loss of Solitude (Unmerklicher Verlust der Einsamkeit), for which he received the Magnesia Litera award in the Debut of the Year category. The book became the first Czech prose work to be selected for the prestigious Books at Berlinale programme — a project that presents titles with strong adaptation potential to film professionals from around the world. Beneš was introduced to more than 180 film industry professionals at Berlinale 2026.

In 2025, his second novel, Everything Will Be Fine, was published by Argo.

What the Press Says

“

A novel this well-written and full-blooded, tackling the Holocaust and its aftermath without resorting to familiar patterns, hasn't appeared in our literary landscape for a long time.

Alena Šidáková Fialová — iTvar
“

Beneš writes with a striking realism and powerful imagery.
